Where are my child’s classes?
Class venues can be found on this page, and you can download the map to help you find your way.
Where do I hire/buy my child's instrument?
We recommend you do not buy an instrument online. We suggest you visit a music store, try out different models and talk to a musical instrument salesperson. Musical instruments can be a costly investment. Instrument hire is a great option for students in their first couple of years of lessons, particularly for wind, brass, violin and cello students.
Here are some reputable music stores we recommend you visit for instrument purchase or hire:
KBB Music For most music needs, including repairs and rentals. Has a shop in Albany and Epsom and inside Rockshop in Northwest and Botany.
Music Works - For most music needs, including rentals. Has a shop in Albany, CBD, Epsom, Manukau, Westgate and inside Music Mania in Pukekohe.
Rockshop - For keyboard, piano, guitar, bass, and ukulele. Shops are located in Albany, Takapuna, Northwest, Henderson, Sylvia Park, Botany, Manukau and inside KBB Music in Epsom.
ABI Music - For brass and woodwind rentals, repairs and purchases. Based in Glenfield.
If you are unsure of what brand/model of instrument is best, email or ask your tutor in lessons.
Do I need to bring my instrument to class?
Yes, unless you are a keyboard or drums student. However, if you are a drum student you will need to bring your own sticks.
How often should my child practise their instrument?
We encourage practice 3-5 times a week, rather than for a set amount of time. Efficient practice is about regularity rather than just quantity. If students haven't practised we would still love to see them each week at their lesson!
Can I pay for classes at the Murrays Bay Intermediate School?
We only accept payments online through our enrolment platform (Kindo). When you enrol in a class here, you will be directed to the payment.
Can I enrol if my child is not yet the required age for enrolment, but will reach the age requirement during the year that I plan to enrol?
Yes. If you child will meet the age requirements during the year you are enrolling in, we will accept their enrolment. For example, a keyboard student is able to enrol in lessons, even if they don't turn 6 until April.
Can I enrol late?
If there is a vacant class, absolutely. However, you must still pay the years' worth of fees, even if you a joining halfway through the year. Please let us know if you would like to enrol and it has passed the enrolment period.
Do I need to make any further payments throughout the year?
No. The initial payment made through Kindo will take you through the entire year and covers book hire.
Are there catch-up lessons if my child is not able to attend a lesson?
Due to the nature of group lessons we cannot arrange catch up lessons for students' personal circumstances (such as sickness, camps, competitions, holidays etc). Catch up lessons only happen if the tutor is unavailable and there are no relievers who can step in.
I booked my child into the wrong class/wish to move them into another class. Can I change this through Kindo?
Let us know if this happens and we can put you into the desired class.
The class I wish to enrol my child in is full, will more classes open up through an expression of interest?
Do email us if you would like to join a class even though it is full on Kindo. We will put you on a waiting list and let you know when spaces open up.
