INSTRUMENTS

Mid-Bays Music School offers 12 different instruments which are taught by our talented team of tutors.

Keyboard

​The piano is the world's most popular instrument mainly because of its range and unique ability to play any song with great depth and richness.

Tutors:
Larissa McPherson,  Lisa Gu, Joel Wong, William Wei & Michel Zhou

Available: Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays

Age Requirements: 6+
Other requirements: Keyboard/Piano at home with at least 61 keys.

Ukulele

The Ukulele is a great instrument to learn for kids picking up music for the first time. It's easy to learn (especially with our brilliant tutors) and has a great way of getting others to sing along to almost any song.

Trumpet

Tutor: Emily Sullivan
Available: Saturdays
Age Requirements: 9+

The trumpet is the highest part in the brass family. Trumpets are great for classical and jazz ensembles and produce a bright, warm, and voice-like tone. 

Trombone

Available: Saturdays
Age Requirements: 9+

The trombone is a brass instrument with a darker and voice-like tone. Playing the trombone is great for developing a 'musical ear'.

Flute

Tutor: Jamie Oh
Available: Wednesdays
Age Requirements: 9+

​The flute is among the highest instruments of the woodwind family and plays beautiful flowing melodies. 

Saxophone

Tutor: Caleb Wright
Available: Saturdays
Age Requirements: 9+

The saxophone is a best known for its features in jazz music, but can be played across many genres. The alto saxophone is the most common among different types of saxophones and produces a smooth sound. 

Drums

Tutor: Caleb Wright
Available: Saturdays
Age Requirements: 9+

Drums are the most quintessential percussion instrument. A drummer not only provides a beat but also the excitement and energy into a group. 

Violin

Tutor: Sammy Goad
Available: Saturdays
Age Requirements: 8+
Other Requirements: Preferably wooden violin
​
The violin is a the highest pitched instrument in the string family and often plays the melodies in orchestras and string groups. 

Viola

Tutor: Sammy Goad
Available: Saturdays
Age Requirements: 8+

The viola has a slightly lower pitch and a larger size than the violin. It has a warm, reedy and distinctive sound which adds colour to the harmonies in group ensembles.

Cello

Tutor: William Wei
Available: Fridays
Age Requirements: 9+

A cello is a musical instrument with four strings that looks like a large violin. You play the cello with a bow while sitting down and holding it upright between your legs.

Recorder

Tutors: Emily Sullivan & Amia Ringrose
Available: Saturdays & Thursdays
Age Requirements: 6+

The recorder is great for students learning an instrument for the first time. It is easy and fun to play, and is a useful introduction to playing wind and brass instruments. 

Clarinet

Tutor: Charlotte Marriott
Available: Wednesdays

Age Requirements: 9+

The clarinet is a woodwind instrument with a mellow, warm and gentle sound. 

Oboe

Age Requirements: 9+

The oboe is a double-reeded woodwind instrument with a clear, bright and reedy sound. Although challenging to play, it is extremely rewarding. Oboe players are highly demanded in music groups, bands and orchestras.

Acoustic Guitar

Tutors: Sam Sale & Caleb Wright
Available: Tuesdays & Saturdays
Age Requirements: 9+

The guitar is one of the most popular and versatile instruments. It's a crowd-pleaser whether played solo or as an accompaniment to singing. 

Bass Guitar

Available: Weekdays
Age Requirements: 9+

The bass guitar is often the foundation of an ensemble and provides a deep and rich accompaniment. Bass players have both a rhythmic and harmonic role in a band which very rewarding to play.
